VIS 130: Special Projects in Visual Arts - Love, Crush, Anger, Institution
University of San Diego, California - Summer 2020
What does filmmaking look like as a daily practice? What kinds of filmmaking practices reflect daily experience, and can these also be practices through which we find forms for love and rage? In this special-topic production course we will devote one week to each of these four subjects, creating moving image works addressing:
1. Someone or something you love
2. Someone or something you have a crush on
3. Someone or something you feel anger towards
4. An institution
We will view film and video works that, through their mode of address, challenge dominant narratives of race, class, gender, and intimacy. Who do we make work for, and how do we reach them?
